In Liam O’Donnell’s words:
I’m totally excited to announce that on October 1st Media Meltdown will not only be landing in bookstores across Canada but also available as a free download to anyone who wants it.
We’re not talking just a few chapters or a sample of rough work, it’s a FULL free download of the final printed edition for you to enjoy, keep and share. You’ll have to wait until October 1st to download your free copy, but for now you can preview the full graphic novel and get started on the adventure. If you like what you read and want your own papery copy, then head over to Orca Books and fill up your cart.
At the heart of Media Meltdown is a battle for control of the messages we all see and hear every day. It’s a struggle between young upstarts who want to get the truth out and the power holders who like things just the way they are.
I think it’s a fun story (I wrote it, so I am a bit biased), but it’s also a very important message that is crucial to the ongoing struggle for control the media that we all own. To help this message reach the most eyes and ears, myself , Mike Deas and the great folks at Orca decided to release Media Meltdown into the mediascape for free to see where it goes and who finds it and in hopes that it inspires other media makers to jump in and take part in the meltdown.
Enjoy!

In other news I am knee deep in roughs of the next Graphic Guide Adventure – Food Fight, and its looking good! Liam’s come up with another great adventure for Devin, Nadia and the others. Check out some of the new characters:
I just received the advance reading copy of Media Madness, its great to see all put together. I have also posted some location concepts and the character lineup.
When Karl Reed, Owner of Oasis Developments, tries to force the sale of a local fruit farm—through whatever means necessary—Pema, Bounce and Jagroop decide to expose him through the media. Little do they realize that when it comes to the news and the advertisers who make it possible, the truth is not always part of the story and nothing can be taken at face value. While learning about media consolidation and the power of money over truth, Bounce, Pema and Jagroop decide to take on the developers and the media.
Soccer Sabotage is finished and on the shelves. Soccer Sabotage is the 3rd book to come out in the Graphic Guide Adventure series, Written by the talented Liam O’donnell, and illustrated by yours truely.
Nadia is playing for her local soccer team, and they have made it all the way to the national tournament—against some very determined opposition. Unfortunately, Nadia’s challenges don’t just come from her opponents but from her teammates as well. After their coach is injured in a suspicious accident and the threats against the team mount, it is up to Nadia and her younger brother Devin to pull the team together and take a run at the championship. Another Wild Ride!
Check out the review from CM Magazine:
“Soccer Sabotage: A Graphic Guide Adventure is an innovative book about soccer. It is a graphic novel, like a comic, yet has chapters. The book teaches readers soccer tips with step by step instructions and diagrams. There is also an interesting plot to go along with the lessons.
Mike Deas did an excellent job in illustrating the work. The pages are very colorful and attractive as they stand out. The characters look extraordinary which will be appealing to young readers.
The plot is splendid. The author planned out the plot very well with lots of twists and turns throughout the storyline. The story is told from Devin’s perspective. His sister, Nadia, is Captain of the London Lions soccer team. The team is playing in the under-18 Canadian Championships in Toronto.
There is plenty of mystery in the book as Devin and his sidekick, Stewart, figure out whether someone is trying to sabotage the Lions’ attempt to win the championships. Stewart’s dad, who is the girls’ coach, mysteriously falls down the stairs. Was he pushed down, or did he simply lose his balance and fall? The answer to those questions is something the two boys investigate, and that’s not all that falls either. There is lots of action and mystery, too, in the book.
Soccer fans and just about anyone will overall enjoy reading this book whether they want to learn tips or read some mystery. It’s definitely worth the read.
Highly Recommended. “
