BC Kids Summer Reading Club!

By Uncategorized

This year I have had the opportunity to be the illustrator of the British Columbia Library Association’s Kids Summer Reading Club.  The B.C. Summer Reading Club (SRC) is a provincially-funded program which encourages children to read books throughout the summer vacation.

I have a new Tumblr Account where I will post the images of the process of creating the poster that will be printed this year. In the future I plan to post more process images there.

Dalen and Gole Webcomic: The Process

By Uncategorized

Below I describe the process I use creating the weekly web-comic on dalenandgole.com!
DalenAndGole_WebComicProcess1

I start by roughing out the comic in blue using a Col-Erase pencil. I sometimes do a really rough thumbnail sketch before I launch into this stage.

DalenAndGole_WebComicProcess2Next I ink the comic using a Number 2 Winsor & Newton series 7 sable brush and Speedball India Ink.

DalenAndGole_WebComicProcess3Then I scan the comic into the computer and remove the blue pencil lines from the image leaving just the black lines. On a Wacom screen I color in flat colors before shading.

DalenAndGole_WebComicProcess4On top of the flat colors I paint in shading. Then I overlay watercolor washes to add some texture leaving me with the final result:
